Oloye Jumoke Akinjide is the Principal Partner of Akinjide & Co. She obtained her LL. B Degree from King’s College, University of London in 1980. She subsequently attended Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.A where she obtained a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) in 1981. Thereafter, she attended the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Nigerian Bar in July 1982; and later admitted as a Solicitor of England & Wales in 1994. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
Oloye Jumoke Akinjide is dual qualified, both as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and a Solicitor of England & Wales. Having obtained First Class Honours in the English Solicitors Final Examinations, Oloye Jumoke worked at Simmons & Simmons (1992-1994), one of the top law firms in London. She has extensive legal experience, spanning four (4) decades as a Solicitor, Arbitrator & Mediator, specializing in Oil & Gas, Corporate and Commercial Law.
Oloye Jumoke Akinjide has been continuously in active legal practice with the notable exception of the period when she took two (2) sabbaticals to serve as a Special Assistant to President Olusegun Obasanjo on Federal Capital Territory Matters, G77 Matters and Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization (2001 – 2003) and as a Federal Minister in the Cabinet of former President Goodluck Jonathan (2011-2015).
She was the Managing Partner, AKINJIDE & CO., Joint Head of the Energy Law Department and Head of Company Law Department, (Aug. 1994 – May 2001). Between, 2003 – 2011, she was the Principal Partner, NEWMAN LEGAL.
She has deep knowledge of the public sector at the Federal level, and exposure to most aspects of State Administration gained from working with the Federal Capital Territory Administration in Abuja as the Minister of State, FCT. She also served as the Supervising Minister for Police Affairs in 2014.
Oloye Jumoke Akinjide is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK); member of the Law Society of England & Wales; Association of International Petroleum Negotiators, USA; Section on Energy and Natural Resources Law, International Bar Association; and Negotiation & Conflict Management Group Institute of Petroleum (UK).
She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and was Head, Nigerian Bar Association Legislative Support & Monitoring Unit at the National Assembly. She is also a member of the Arbitration Law Reform Commission of Lagos State; Investment Laws Reform Committee of the Federal Government of Nigeria; Continuing Legal Education Association of Nigeria; Nigerian Environmental Law Society Women International Shipping & Trading Association and a Director, Abuja Investments Company Limited (AICL); and Chairperson, Local Organising Committee, Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (AIPN), West Africa Chapter.
Oloye Jumoke Akinjide’s legal practice is varied and international. She has designed and implemented continuing professional development programmes for lawyers on various topics including company law, maritime law, arbitration and ADR, negotiation skills, contracting and alliancing in the Petroleum Industry. Her areas of specialisation include both contentious and non-contentious matters.
