As a leading multi-disciplinary law firm, we are able to act and offer advice both in Nigeria and overseas in our chosen areas of practice. Akinjide & Co. over the near 70 years of its existence, developed a first-class client base by providing top quality specialist advice. The size and diversity of our client portfolio is matched by the diverse experience of the Firm’s lawyers, some of whom have previously worked in the Federal Government and City of London law firms. The Firm has a rich pool of eminent and seasoned legal practitioners who were mentored by the Late Chief Richard Akinjide CON, SAN, FCI Arb. The Firm publishes the Akinjide & Co. Series, an in-house publication on Legal and Public Interest topics, to share our knowledge with clients and for the benefit of the general public.

The Firm, Akinjide & Co., was founded in 1956 by Late Chief Richard Akinjide, CON, SAN, FCI Arb. Since its inception and up to the present day, the Firm has been at the forefront of legal practice and development in Nigeria.

Litigation may in many cases be a last resort. It can also be unavoidable, be it as an unwilling and innocent Defendant or as a Plaintiff forced to protect his rights. In advising our clients, Akinjide & Co. strives to balance the advantages of vigorously conducted litigation with the benefits of a rapid settlement of disputes, employing tools such as negotiation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
Akinjide & Co. is well versed in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution. Our lawyers are equipped to navigate the full spectrum of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution in the most efficient and practical way. Members of the Firm have been appointed to act as Arbitrators in several commercial disputes. Our Principal Partner is a qualified Arbitrator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). The Firm has handled complex ad hoc and international commercial arbitrations in the construction, maritime and petroleum industries.
We also endeavour to encourage dispute resolution by promoting, wherever possible, the settlement of disputes through mediation, conciliation or mini-trial.
